Heathrow Airport Taxiway Reconstruction
Heathrow's Scheme 22 works covered two connected jobs: rehabilitating an existing taxiway and rebuilding a rapid exit taxiway from the subgrade up. Morgan Sindall brought TAG in to deliver both, working for Morgan Sindall Construction Infrastructure across the 2016 programme.
On the taxiway rehabilitation side, TAG replaced 56 PQ concrete bays, repaired the existing wetlean layer beneath them, and carried out local concrete repairs to get every bay ready for its new surface. On the N6 rapid exit taxiway, the job went deeper: grading and compacting the type 1 sub-base, installing profiled formwork and steel reinforcement mesh, then pouring a new 400mm-thick PQ concrete pavement built to take the loads a rapid exit taxiway sees.
TAG precast and installed new concrete surface water catch pits and a new slot channel drainage system around the taxiway's perimeter, the kind of detail that keeps a pavement performing long after the concrete has cured.
Beyond the concrete, TAG took on management of airside access and passes for the entire scheme, and supplied additional labour to Morgan Sindall across the wider project. On a £650k contract spanning two distinct taxiway works, that meant one contractor carrying both the physical build and a chunk of the site administration that keeps an airside job compliant.
