Stansted Airport SAT1 & SAT2 Stand Reconfiguration

The SAT1 and SAT2 stands on Stansted's main apron were due for reconfiguration, replacing ageing PQ bays and installing new reinforced concrete bases and chambers airside, all without shutting the stands down for longer than absolutely necessary.

TAG installed shuttering and formwork across the works, placed 500m² of 175mm-thick wetlean concrete and 2,500m² of PQ concrete, and prepared and placed reinforced bases for the FEGP and SEGS equipment that keeps the stand operational. The team also built a new, large reinforced concrete inspection chamber into the apron.

Every part of this had to be carried out and handed back in short possessions, working the windows the airport could give us rather than the ones a contractor would choose. That meant tight sequencing between demolition, base preparation and the pour itself, night after night.

Delivered for £210,000, the reconfigured stands went back into service with new pavement and new below-ground infrastructure in place, proof that airside concrete work and a live apron schedule aren't mutually exclusive.
