Channel Tunnel Rail Link, CTRL 250
CTRL 250/103 called for precast concrete tunnel segments to line a stretch of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link at Dagenham, produced fast enough and consistently enough to keep pace with the tunnel boring machines advancing behind them. TAG delivered that casting programme for the BAM Nuttall, Wayss & Freytag and Kier joint venture.
Segment casting on a tunnelling project only works if the yard can match the machine, so TAG built a production line capable of casting 210 segments a day at peak output, each one to the fit tolerances a bolted tunnel lining demands.
Sustained over the life of the contract, that production line cast 72,000 segments in total, using 80,000m³ of concrete along the way, a volume that reflects just how much of the finished tunnel lining came out of TAG's casting yard rather than off the shelf.
We're proud to have been part of the team that delivered the Channel Tunnel Rail Link on time and on budget, with the precast segments that hold its tunnels together cast, cured and ready exactly when the job needed them.
