🔙 In 2022: TAG Construction and VolkerFitzpatrick successfully replaced two critical taxiway links at London City Airport within a 24-hour window. This operation was part of a larger project to upgrade nearly 9,000m² of taxiway infrastructure.

The task involved replacing taxiway links – Bravo and Charlie – situated within a sensitive area that required all excavations to be closed by the end of each shift.

Utilising TAG’s expertise in overnight bay replacements, the team executed a compact and demanding programme of works. This included:

⏱Pre-sawing to maximize possession time.

🏋️‍♀️Vacuum lifting of 250m² of PQ concrete, allowing for efficient removal without damaging surrounding areas.

⛏Precision excavation and preparation for the installation of new primary and secondary AGL ducts.

As a result, the team replaced up to 250m² of 485mm thick taxiway in each 24-hour period, ensuring operational readiness with zero issues.

TAG’s vacuum lifting technique for bay replacements offers significant advantages:

⏩Speed and efficiency: A bay can be removed in just 20 minutes.

🛡Reduced risk of damage: Ensuring no remedial works are necessary.

🤓Safety: Minimized risk of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) due to no loose flying debris.

The success of this project is a testament to the planning capability and working relationship that exists between TAG, VolkerFitzpatrick, and London City Airport.

TAG were also commended with achieving a reading of 0.0.0 on one of the PQ Straight Edge Tests. We’re always happy when a client is happy and very proud to have achieved such accurate results.
