East of England Airfield Concrete Bay Replacement

TAG Construction Limited are pleased to commend our team who delivered top-notch service and quality workmanship during a recent project at an airfield in the East of England, working on behalf of our client, Jointline Limited.

The project involved the meticulous placement and finishing of 106 cubic meters of concrete across 21 bays. This complex undertaking required a well-coordinated effort and was successfully completed within a demanding four-day programme.

Our 12-man team, equipped with all the necessary tools, worked to ensure the project met the highest standards of quality and safety. This is standard practice across all our projects, which ensures that our teams can complete accurate work in a range of critical environments.

We planned and arranged to accommodate our team overnight in order to manage fatigue. It’s important to be proactive to ensure the well-being of our operatives so they can maintain the high standards of workmanship that our clients expect from us.

Reflecting on this project, we are proud of our team’s dedication and the flawless execution of the task. As we continue to take on new challenges, we remain committed to delivering outstanding results and exceeding our clients’ expectations.

London City Airport Taxiway Link Replacement

This ThrowbackThursday
🔙 In 2022: TAG Construction and VolkerFitzpatrick successfully replaced two critical taxiway links at London City Airport within a 24-hour window. This operation was part of a larger project to upgrade nearly 9,000m² of taxiway infrastructure.

The task involved replacing taxiway links – Bravo and Charlie – situated within a sensitive area that required all excavations to be closed by the end of each shift.

Utilising TAG’s expertise in overnight bay replacements, the team executed a compact and demanding programme of works. This included:

⏱Pre-sawing to maximize possession time.

🏋️‍♀️Vacuum lifting of 250m² of PQ concrete, allowing for efficient removal without damaging surrounding areas.

⛏Precision excavation and preparation for the installation of new primary and secondary AGL ducts.

As a result, the team replaced up to 250m² of 485mm thick taxiway in each 24-hour period, ensuring operational readiness with zero issues.

TAG’s vacuum lifting technique for bay replacements offers significant advantages:

⏩Speed and efficiency: A bay can be removed in just 20 minutes.

🛡Reduced risk of damage: Ensuring no remedial works are necessary.

🤓Safety: Minimized risk of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) due to no loose flying debris.

The success of this project is a testament to the planning capability and working relationship that exists between TAG, VolkerFitzpatrick, and London City Airport.

TAG were also commended with achieving a reading of 0.0.0 on one of the PQ Straight Edge Tests. We’re always happy when a client is happy and very proud to have achieved such accurate results.

Cockett Wick Sea Wall

✨ Recent site visit 🌟 The work building the sea wall at Cockett Wick is progressing very well and we are very pleased that it is expected to be completed on time.

After the Environment Agency initiated a £10 million project to raise and strengthen the sea wall, TAG Construction Limited got to work providing labour for our client, BAM UK & Ireland. Our teams have been working on the installation of more than 150 steel piles, while over 14,000 tonnes of Norwegian granite has been brought in by barge over six weeks for use as rock armour for reinforcement.

On our visit, the team from TAG Construction Limited were finishing and making good the concrete that has been poured so far and are preparing the final section.

With an eye on the future, these sea defences are designed to be raised again in 50 years’ time to ensure another 50 years of protection whilst maintaining sea views.

The work we do today will help to protect over 3,000 properties and businesses in Jaywick, Essex which represents a huge step forward in providing flood protection for the local community.

Silvertown Tunnel

The Silvertown Tunnel aims to reduce congestion and improve connectivity across the River Thames. The project is being delivered by the Riverlinx consortium, with operatives from TAG Construction Ltd working hard to ensure that the project is delivered on time and on budget.

Work on the Silvertown Tunnel is progressing steadily, with the tunnel expected to open in around a year’s time. The construction site is a hive of activity, one operative told us: “The pace of work is amazing. If you have a week off, you have to spend some time exploring the site as so much will have changed!”

The cross passageways for the main tunnel have been excavated, and the fit-out stage has commenced. The control towers, which rise above each entrance north and south of The Thames are having brickwork applied and the cut and cover parts of the tunnel are being poured with concrete for the roofs.

TAG Construction Ltd are working closely with the RiverLinx Consortium, providing both labour expertise and design insight. Our decades of experience enables us to ensure that our operatives carry out work safely and to a high standard. The Silvertown Tunnel will be in operation for at least a century, and we are proud to be involved in projects that will stand the test of time.
