Apprenticeships
We are pleased to announce our approval for new government funding to support young people entering the industry.
The Kickstart government scheme aims to assist young people, whose job prospects have been disproportionately affected by COVID, in securing long-term employment.
Announced by the Chancellor in summer 2020, the £2 billion Kickstart scheme provides support for approved employers to create new job placements for 16- to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit, who are at risk of long-term unemployment.
For employers who meet the strict criteria, the government will fund:
- The national minimum wage for 25 hours per week
- Associated employer National Insurance contributions
- Employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
This support is provided for a total of six months.
The job placements created with Kickstart scheme funding must be new jobs. They must not replace existing vacancies or cause existing employees, apprentices, or contractors to lose work.
Kickstart scheme job placements are available only for Universal Credit claimants aged 16 to 24 who are referred by JobCentres. If you are eligible and interested, please talk to your local JobCentre Plus work coach.
