A414 Edinburgh Way, Harlow: Concrete Road Reinstatements
Essex County Council's A414 Edinburgh Way widening scheme needed new services run beneath a live trunk road without shutting down the industrial estate it serves. Morgan Sindall had already cut in the services and backfilled with temporary asphalt; TAG's job was to reinstate the concrete carriageway behind them, permanently and to a standard that would take the road's full weight of daily HGV traffic.
TAG supplied and managed every resource needed to get the job done, bar the road closure itself: labour, plant, specialist sub-contractors, saw cutting, sweepers, waste disposal, welfare facilities and rapid-setting concrete, all mobilised for restricted night closures running Monday to Friday, 20:00 to 06:00.
The challenge was the clock. Each bay had to be saw cut, broken out, excavated, dowelled and poured with a new CSA concrete before the 06:00 handback, with no room for overrun on a road that would be carrying heavy industrial traffic within the hour. TAG's calcium sulphate aluminate mix cured to 25-30N/mm² in as little as two and a half hours even in low temperatures, and its consistency let the team pour to the road's camber without slumping.
TAG arrived, worked and demobilised each shift without needing a compound or site set-up, and the road reopened to Edinburgh Way's heavy goods traffic on schedule every morning of the programme.
