Leigh Road Bridge, Slough
Leigh Road needed a new bridge to carry it over Network Rail's tracks as part of an upgrade to a key route through the Slough Trading Estate, and Osborne brought TAG in for the FRC package: pilecaps, abutment walls, wing walls, bearing shelves, pilasters and bearing plinths.
The bridge itself was a steel structure, with 2-metre-deep plate girder beams and a permanent steel deck driven into position over the live rails during a possession. TAG provided the temporary works slabs that carried the Mammoet self-propelled transporters used to move the beams into place, then followed with the reinforced concrete deck topping, stitching in the precast concrete parapet units once the steelwork was set.
TAG also formed the reinforced concrete bases, ground beams and stitches needed for the approach ramps, including the coping stone units that support the vehicle restraint system along the new crossing.
The result is a new bridge that keeps Leigh Road running over an active rail corridor, built with the concrete substructure precise enough to carry a steel superstructure moved into place over live tracks.
