River Mole Bridge, Horley
Breheny Civil Engineering brought TAG in to construct the River Mole Bridge in Horley, a structure built from the ground up: pilecaps, abutment walls, wing walls, and a central pier finished to a radius profile, all carrying a two-part deck designed to suit the site's constraints.
The first part of the deck was cast in-situ with anchored void formers and cantilevered parapets; the second used a precast beam deck with diaphragm walls and infills, GRP permanent formwork, and cantilevered parapets supported on falsework suspended from the precast edge beams once the diaphragm infills had cured and stabilised the structure.
Before a single pour started, TAG produced a detailed construction programme to define the safest and most efficient build sequence for the bridge. That planning paid off: the job was completed to a high standard, on time and within budget, and the completed structure was accepted promptly by the adopting authority.
