Portsmouth Road, Kingston Riverside Leisure Development
As part of TfL's cycle highway project, a social riverside area on Portsmouth Road was redeveloped for Kingston Borough Council, creating garden spaces across two sites for local residents to enjoy. Kier Highways awarded TAG the tender to build the hard landscaping that would turn the riverside into a genuine public amenity.
TAG's scope ran to over 500 metres of reinforced decorative concrete retaining walls, seven large concrete staircases finished with stainless steel handrails, four Cumaru timber decking seating areas, and more than 100 metres of pedestrian guardrails, alongside a range of decorative furniture supplied and installed to complete the space.
Delivering that scope safely and to a high finish meant building a close working relationship with the groundworks contractor and Kier's site management team, and TAG worked through the design changes that inevitably arose on a public realm scheme of this kind to keep the end product to the standard the council wanted.
TAG supplied all the labour, plant and materials behind the finished riverside, and the works were regularly complimented by local residents as they took shape, a public space built to be used and enjoyed, not just driven past.
